I know this topic is very controversal and maybe over talked about now a days. But I wanted to share my approach incase it resonates with anyone.
I believe my perception of self care a little different than the general population, so I wanted to share incase it resonates for anyone. Self Care is a very big part of my everyday living. I approach it by doing things that feel good for me daily.
For example, I know that being in nature and moving my body is important for me and makes me feel good. But I don't put the pressure on myself to make it an obligation daily, especially, if I am feeling tired or the weather isn't amazing. I approach my self care on a day by day, hour by hour basis. Sometimes the best self care for me is just lay down for a short period and just be.
When you get to the root source of self care, you realize that it is just an act of love towards yourself. It is a way to give love to yourself. To treat your body and mind with the love and compassion you give to others and that you desire to receive.
If I have inspired you to fill up your cup, begin with looking at everything you do from the thoughts you have once you open your eyes to the sequence of activities you partake in the morning and through out the day.
Ask yourself the following questions about everything,
are these things that you love to do?
or have to do?
do they make you feel good?
do they make you feel worse?
This is an ever evolving practice for me. The key is to listen to how you are feeling and if it isn't feeling good to ask why? Maybe it is something that needs a perception shift or maybe it is something you can delegate or something to eliminate. With time it will get faster and easier to go through the questions and figure out what self care you really need.
