A Day on Bowen Island

Bowen Island, the famous backdrop in the Netflix series "Virgin River" is a great day trip from Vancouver.

Access:

There is esay bus access (250 or 257 Express) from downtown Vancouver to the Horseshoe Bay. If you are travelling by car there is lots of shines off the highway and the ferry also allows cars. The bus and ferry schedule are pretty regular throughout the day. The best part is you arrive right in the town which is easy and convient.

I have been to this island twice without a car and loved exploring the charming port town of Snug Cove. Once you arrive at Snug Cove, you arrive right in the small village. To the right of the ferry terminal is a small boardwalk with some shops, cafe and restaurants. You can also walk up the main strip and explore cafes and shops, art galleries, breweries and more.

Things to do:

  • I highly recommend the hike around the lagoon and Dorman point. (These hikes are relatively flat and easy but do take a few hours to complete.

  • There is a small rocky beach "Sandy Beach" off of Carena St. that you can dip your toes in the ocean.

  • Check out the boardwalk and grab a coffee or Earnest ice cream from one of the shops.

  • The Artisan area is a bit of a small hike up the hill but has a charming feel

Recommended Cafes:

The Artisan Eats

The Snug Cafe

Best Shops:

Wren Boutique

Sangre De Fruita Botanicals

Tosh Home & Garden
